Is Chikoo really free?
Yes. Chikoo is free with no ads, no paid tier and no in-app purchases. Receipt scanning and multiple currencies are included, not gated behind a subscription, and there is no daily cap on adding expenses.
What's the difference between Chikoo and Splitwise?
Both split expenses evenly, by exact amounts, by percentage or unevenly, and both work out who owes whom. The differences that matter: Chikoo is free with no ads and no daily cap, and receipt scanning and multiple currencies in one group are included rather than paywalled. Splitwise is the more established app and ships on iOS, which Chikoo doesn't yet — iOS is coming.
Which platforms does Chikoo run on?
Android, from Google Play, and any modern browser at chikoo.2byte.in. An iOS app is not released yet.
Can I use Chikoo if my friends use Splitwise?
Yes. Chikoo is a record-keeping tool, not a payment service — it never holds or moves money, so settling up is something you do however you like, with whoever you like. Add your friends by phone number and start splitting immediately, whether or not they're on Chikoo.
Does Chikoo hold or move my money?
No. Chikoo tracks who paid what and works out who owes whom. It is not a payment service and never holds or transfers funds. Marking something settled records that a payment happened; it doesn't make one happen.
